Sm4sh Vlog Ep. 2 Updates & Competitive Progress [Notes]

The 2nd episode to the Sm4sh Vlog “Smash Bros. Qualified” is underway. I can’t give much away but what I will say is that it will really showcase Blaze (that’s me) as a Meta-player to the competitive scene and you will get a better feel of that.

Speaking of competitive, my progress has been extremely productive lately. I have to admit that it has NOT been easy, nor should it be. Approaching the scene as a full-fledge Roy main has taught me a lot and how challenging it’s gonna be. But I LOVE IT! After every tournament I enter and realize the results, I continue to get this adrenaline rush to learn more and become better. I believe most of that rush stems from me seeing my own potential and just being determined. I’m going to keep that fire lit for as long as I have the ability to continue entering tournaments and progressing with Roy.

Appreciative of you guys who have been keeping up with me so far. Just know that it’s just the beginning for us.


Inspiration of the Week: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: Fan Re-Creates Parts of the Game with Unreal Engine

Can you be any more impressed? When you get a real fan the right amount of “supplies” needed to show off his talent, you get this. Creator, CryZENx went ahead and made/remastered (from scratch) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, amongst other (mostly Nintendo) games using an Unreal Engine. In case you aren’t aware of what the Unreal Engine is or what it’s capable of doing, keep in mind that it has been used a lot recently by well-known companies who probably never used it before. One great example of this is by SquareEnix who are working on the latest of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, “Kingdom Hearts 3”.

Is this gentleman hired yet? I mean, this really goes to show you that you with the right resources and knowledge anything is possible. Definitely check out more of this guys stuff, you won’t be disappointed! Simply Amazing.


Xbox One: Microsoft Wants Cross-Platform Play Enabled for Consoles


Have you heard? Looks like something finally clicked for Microsoft because they’re looking to cross platforms with Sony (PS4 to XBone) via online gaming as well as with PC (specifically Windows 10) gamers.

Here’s a little more info according to sources:

Microsoft has announced it will natively support cross-platform play between Xbox One, Windows 10, and other “online multiplayer networks.” The move effectively opens the Xbox Live platform so that it can accommodate players on Sony’s PlayStation Network, among others.

They also mentioned that Chris Charla, director of ID@Xbox, said “it’s up to game developers to support this feature” and noted that players will “always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players.”

This is an absolutely splendid, prolonged idea that was waiting to happen but egotists (ahem, Xbox staff) kept blocking the idea. As far as I’m concerned, PS4 has been open to the idea way before this. Maybe the Xbox team was waiting for the “right time”, whatever that might be. Your thoughts?

Mortal Kombat X confirms Jason from Friday the 13th as new character


As you may (or may not) know of the latest to the Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat X, has been released for almost a month now (April 14th to be exact). Now, first of all, I’m not a huge fan. But I’ve grown up with this franchise and it comes to a huge shock to me that a game that has embraced the term fatality has finally decided to include Jason from Friday the 13th after over 20 or so years of existence.. What took them so long?

Anyway, for those who don’t know, Jason Voorhees is a very famous (or to some, infamous) masked murderer from the on-going movie thriller “Friday the 13th”. Turns out he’s no longer just chasing camp counselors anymore. He’s been confirmed by Warner Bros’ recent trailer to be apart of the Mortal Kombat roster starting tomorrow, May 5th.

Voorhees will be available in Mortal Kombat X by way of the Jason Voorhees Bundle. It launches tomorrow, May 5, for people who own the $30 Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack. Everyone else can buy the bundle a week later on May 12 for $8. In addition to a new playable character in Voorhees, the Jason Voorhees Bundle comes with the Horror Pack, which introduces three horror-themed skins to Mortal Kombat X. The characters are Vampiress Mileena, Kraken Reptile and Pharaoh Ermac.

Jason Voorhees will also be sold separately starting May 12 for $5, while the Horror Pack will go for $4.

Gasp! Hideo Kojima said to leave Konami after Metal Gear V is completed


According to inside sources from
gamespot, Mr. Hideo Kojima, the creator and mastermind behind the Metal Gear franchise and Kojima productions is set to leave his long-time company Konami soon. An anonymous source said “power struggles” between Kojima Productions and Konami have led to employment changes for Kojima himself, as well as other senior staff. They reportedly now work as contractors instead of full-time employees.

“After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami,” the source said. “They said their contract ends in December.”

After the allegations have been roaming around, Konami has even went to confirm to ign why changes have been occurring within their company:

“As we have already announced, we are shifting our production structure to a headquarters-controlled system, in order to establish a steadfast operating base capable of responding to the rapid market changes that surround our digital entertainment business. Konami Digital Entertainment (including Mr. Kojima), will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”

Get this though — Key developers, including Hideo Kojima, are also reportedly being given limited access to corporate internet, emails, and phone calls.

So with this said, Hideo Kojima confirmed himself that after the creation of Metal Gear V: Phantom Pain, he will no longer be working with Konami. He did add, though, that he will still work on anything regarding the Metal Gear franchise. So I suppose that’s the good news.

If you’re familiar, like I am, with Metal Gear and how far it’s come then you can understand why I would feel this was a HUGE move. Mr. Kojima has really brought a lot to the company and gave them so much exposure. So It’s interesting to see how much has changed and continues to do so; especially like this. I hope it was worth it, and I wish them all the best in what the future holds for them.

Uh oh: Metal Gear V Confirmed to be the Last Metal Gear + Snake Won’t be Talking as Much


Lets start out by talking a little on Metal Gear. The Metal Gear saga has been around since the late `80s. And since the beginning, It’s been created by the one and only Hideo Kojima. It was well noticed on the Famicon/NES system, this was when the first of the franchise had began. Eventually, Metal Gear Solid launched for the PSX and with all the popularity it gained, that’s when the saga really took off.

So get this guy’s, it’s been said prior that actor Kiefer Sutherland will be voice acting Snake in Metal Gear V: Phantom Pain. This is still the case, however you may not hear his voice very often in the game. Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima says in a new interview that Snake “won’t really speak much at all.” Keeping Snake somewhat silent was a design choice Kojima made so that he comes across as an extension of the player. Here’s more details on what Mr. Kojima had to say:

“I’ve said it many times, but I understand why people feel Snake is cool and admire him. In realty, though, Snake is and always has been nothing more than an extension of the player. He’s your alter ego. Therefore, I made a very conscious effort this time to bring Snake closer to the player’s perspective. As much as possible, Snake will act based on the player rather than doing things like making spontaneous comments or flirting with women.

“In fact, this time, Snake won’t really speak much at all. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is an open-world game focused on giving freedom to the player who will drive Snake’s actions. Snake himself will be more of a silent protagonist similar to Mad Max in Mad Max 2. It’s the characters around him who will expand the story.”

But that’s not all. Metal Gear fans understand that this has been a long saga for Metal Gear; since its release on the NES back in `87. Well how does it feel to hear that producer Hideo Kojima is calling this the “final saga”? This wouldn’t be the first time that Mr. Kojima called out on a Metal Gear game being the last, as he’s said it in the past. But this time around he seems to be quite certain that this will bring the saga to a close.

“I always say, ‘This will be my last Metal Gear,’ but the games in the series that I’ve personally designed and produced–Metal Gear on MSX, MG2, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and now MGSV–are what constitute a single ‘Metal Gear Saga.’ With MGSV, I’m finally closing the loop on that saga. In that sense, this will be the final ‘Metal Gear Solid,’ Even if the ‘Metal Gear’ franchise continues, this is the last ‘Metal Gear.'”

This is never a good thing to hear, but we can hope that this will go off with a big bang. The Phantom Pain launches worldwide September 1 across Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The PC edition is scheduled to arrive two weeks later on September 15 though. We also now know all about the game’s limited edition, which comes with a model of Snake’s bionic arm and then some.

Sony’s Playstation 4 Has Now Reached a New Selling Milestone of 20.2 Million Units


As of March 1, Sony has set the record higher for their console competition by officially selling 20.2 million of their units worldwide.

The manufacturer reports the PS4 is continuing its legacy as the “fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history.” It is currently available in over 123 countries worldwide.

Originally launching in November 2013, the PlayStation 4 was last reported in January 2015 to have sold 18.5 million units worldwide, with 6.4 million of those being sold in its third financial quarter.

As a side note, there are plans for the PlayStation 4 to schedule exclusives in 2015, including Bloodborne, The Order: 1886, and Tearaway Unfolded.

Being their customer since the first Playstation console, PSX, it’s good to see them progress and evolve so much through these different eras. I look forward to everything PS4 has to offer in the future.

Congrats, Sony! You’ve come a long way and show no signs of stepping down anytime soon.
